BIRDS OF THE BUSH
Birds Of The Bush
Join Andrew Goodall for a custom guided tour of the picturesque Sunshine Coast Hinterland, in search of great bird photography opportunities. In forests from Mapleton to Maleny and beyond, the bush is home to a myriad of fascinating bird life. After photographing wildlife on the Sunshine Coast for over 30 years, Andrew can use his local knowledge to get you to places the guide-books don’t tell you about.
You will be collected from your Sunshine Coast or hinterland accommodation at 9.00am and your personalised day of photography begins. Most of our day will be spent in the picturesque Blackall Range from Mapleton to Maleny, but the order may vary depending on where you are staying. There is no ‘set in stone’ itinerary – if we don’t find birds in one location we will move on to spend more time in others. And if you are enjoying a great photo opportunity you won’t be dragged away just to ‘stick to the schedule.’ Remember that your tour host is a photographer who understands that good photography takes time.
We will stop for lunch at a suitable location depending where we are at the time. Lunch is at your own expense and you may choose to grab a sandwich at a bakery or sit down at a cafe. There are so many options available, we can find something to suit all tastes. Public toilets can be found in almost every park and picnic area so we can stop whenever you need.
In the last hour of the day (golden hour) we will head for one of many great landscape When the light is gone and photography is over for the day you will be returned to your accommodation. If you need to be back sooner just let Andrew know.
We are visiting wild birds in their natural habitat so every tour experience is different. Some birds activity is seasonal. Before booking you must understand that sightings of any particular bird cannot be guaranteed. Species you may see on a typical tour include:
Kookaburra * King Parrot * Galah * Red Backed Fairy Wren * Golden Whistler * Eastern Yellow Robin * Azure Kingfisher * Lewin’s Honeyeater * Brown Honeyeater * New Holland Honeyeater * Grey Fantail * Rufous Fantail * Rainbow Lorikeet * Scaly Breasted Lorikeet * Little Wattlebird * Intermediate Egret * White Faced Heron * Magpie * Butcher Bird * Willy Wagtail
The possibilities are honestly too many to list and in addition to these likely sightings there is always the chance of spying some of the rarer or hard-to-find species.
